Episode: Season 1 Episode 23/24 - Tara
Year: 1967
Location: Darlinghurst, Mascot & Cammeray
Description: Sonny and Skippy discover a cave which leads to a valley that was thought to be inaccessible by foot. While they are there they meet an old Aboriginal man named Tara who shows Sonny how to find food and water in the bush. Jerry takes the chopper out on a routine survey flight. Tara sees the helicopter and thinks it is an evil spirit of death and starts to will him self to die. Fifty years earlier, Tara saved the life of a young boy named Robert Jefferson Judd. Matt Hammond organises a meeting with Mr Judd who arranges to have Tara's tribe flown to Sydney to perform a ceremony that will save Tara's life. Below are a collection of photos showing a Sydney street, the building where Matt and Mr Judd have their meeting, the domestic terminal and a bridge the tribe cross on their way to Waratah Park.
Additional Notes: The suspension bridge was privately built and opened in 1892 as a tram link to middle harbour. The tramway terminus opened in1909. However, it wasn't until 1914 that the first tram crossed the bridge. Work began in 1937on converting the bridge to a concrete arch structure officially opened in 1939. The surrounding area was known as Suspension Bridge until the name was changed to Cammeray in the 1920's.
