Episode 26

Episode: Season 1 Episode 26 The Runaway
Year: 1967
Location: Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
Description: Tom, a troubled youth has escaped from Broughton Reform School. After breaking into a sports' store and stealing a gun, he heads towards Waratah National Park where he randomly takes potshots at the wildlife. Tom carelessly discards a cigarette butt that starts a brush fire. Jerry and Mark arrive in the chopper and extinguish the fire. They are then confronted by Tom and his rifle. After a little help from Skippy and a brief struggle, Jerry takes possession of the rifle. Tom escapes and Mark chases him. Unknowingly he is running towards Cooper's Ravine. Episode 23/24

Episode: Season 1 Episode 23/24 - Tara
Year: 1967
Location: Darlinghurst, Mascot & Cammeray
Description: Sonny and Skippy discover a cave which leads to a valley that was thought to be inaccessible by foot. While they are there they meet an old Aboriginal man named Tara who shows Sonny how to find food and water in the bush. Jerry takes the chopper out on a routine survey flight. Tara sees the helicopter and thinks it is an evil spirit of death and starts to will him self to die. Fifty years earlier, Tara saved the life of a young boy named Robert Jefferson Judd. Matt Hammond organises a meeting with Mr Judd who arranges to have Tara's tribe flown to Sydney to perform a ceremony that will save Tara's life. Below are a collection of photos showing a Sydney street, the building where Matt and Mr Judd have their meeting, the domestic terminal and a bridge the tribe cross on their way to Waratah Park. 
Additional Notes: The suspension bridge was privately built and opened in 1892 as a tram link to middle harbour. The tramway terminus opened in1909. However, it wasn't until 1914 that the first tram crossed the bridge. Work began in 1937on converting the bridge to a concrete arch structure officially opened in 1939. The surrounding area was known as Suspension Bridge until the name was changed to Cammeray in the 1920's.

Episode 41

Episode: Season 2 Episode 41- The Perfect Host
Year: 1968
Location: Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
Description: A severe thunder storm has hit the park and is showing no signs of stopping. Greg Haines, from station 'Red', radios headquarters for assistance because his car battery is flat. So Matt and Mark drive to Iron Stone Gorge to assist him by rigging up a flying fox. Back at Ranger Headquarters, Sonny and Clancy mistake Mr Lucas as an armed bank robber who has been reported to be in the area. Bellow are three photos of Iron Stone Gorge and their flying fox.





Episode 83

Episode: Season 3 Episode 83 - El Toro
Year: 1969
Location: Manly Reservoir
Description: It's a long weekend and the park is full of picnickers. Gus and his bull, Brutus have just stopped by the river for a quick cuppa. While Brutus is grazing on some grass, he is compelled to look a little to closely at a passing echidna and receives a sharp spine to his nose. Before Gus has a chance to stop him, Brutus breaks free from his bindings and causes havoc in the park. Episode 2

Episode: Season 1 Episode 2 - Sports Car Rally
Year: 1967
Location: Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
Description: Professional Rally drivers, Mr Morley and Jeff Andrews are planning a sports car rally, with the route passing straight through the middle of Waratah National Park much to the disapproval  of head ranger, Matt Hammond. They arrange to leave one of their Sports Cars at Ranger Headquarters, then head out to drive over the approved course. While out on the road driving dangerously fast, they narrowly miss a koala crossing the road, but fail to negotiate a fallen tree laying across Eastern Boundary Road. The car crashes over Currawong Bend, coming to rest upside down on the edge of the ravine. This looks like a job for the flight ranger, a grappling hook and the chopper. Below are a collection of photographs showing the cars racing through the Park, Sonny crossing the road, Matt Hammond extinguishing a camp fire and also the crash site.

Episode 17

Episode: Season 1 Episode 17 - The Waratah Parade
Year: 1967
Location: Sydney
Description: Career criminal Tacky Evans has stolen a diamond necklace and is on the run, being pursued by two Detectives through Waratah National Park. Tacky takes refuge under a rock ledge and accidentally drops the necklace. Skippy just happens to be waiting at the bottom of the escarpment. Realising the diamond necklace is stolen and also very valuable, she places it in her pouch then hops back to Ranger Headquarters. Back at Headquarters, the Hammond family are preparing their float for the Waratah Spring Festival. Immediately they place Skippy and Hector the emu on the float to help form the coat of arms. Tacky seizes the opportunity to stow away on board the float when nobody is looking so he can try and reclaim the diamonds. During the parade, a fight breaks out between Tacky and the boys. Because of the on going fight throughout the parade, Waratah National Park wins the festival for most original float. Below are a collection of photos of the parade through Sydney.
Additional Notes: The Waratah Spring Festival & Parade was an important and extremely popular event held in Sydney from 1956 until its eventual demise in 1973. The Waratah Spring Festival featured in the Skippy episode took place on Monday, 9th October, 1967.The cast of the show were in the parade under the banner of the New South Wales National Parks & Wildlife Services.
